The magic has been gone since XY. They were the first games I didn't sink hours and hours into, but I just wrote it off as growing pains. ORAS coasted by on my nostalgia, and then I just plain didn't enjoy Sun and Moon very much. I just didn't realize until this new generation how much I just wasn't feeling it any more. I'm mad about Dexit, but I realized that in this merchandise-driven series, they can put in the bare minimum of effort and get away with it.
I'm with you, OP. Romhacks seem the way to go, now.
