Logically, staying close to the wormhole for longer would let them absorb more energy, which would in turn make them bigger than if they only stayed by the wormhole for a little bit. But there would probably be a limit to how big they could get before they can't absorb any more energy, or before the buildup of energy starts harming them. I'm not sure what that limit is, but I think the anime depicted the Totem Kommo-o as being several stories tall, so maybe that's the limit.

Many Pokemon's sizes in battle are completely wonky. Wailord appears to be barely bigger than a human in-battle, for example. But at least the Totems are visibly larger than their normal counterparts in battle (and the photo studio, for that matter).
