1: what is your character like
2: how do they act/dress
3: where are they from
4: what is their goal
example: whooper, a water type, probably hangs out at rivers and is an axelotl kinda easy going, a good name would be lottie which would work off it's real animal counterpart name or you could go something that plays off location, like say mirely or brook or you'd name it after it's personality like say it liked being near damns then logue would be solid.
you could also look at characters, fictional or otherwise to pull from, most anime characters for example are named after food or objects and even sounds (naruto being the most well known) you could also pull from other languages and/or do what pokemon already does which is combines two words to convey an idea, IE psyduck being psychic duck (but you don't make it that on the nose)
