Many people have National Park, Azalea Town or Ecruteak City as their most emotional/nostalgic music from Gen 2, but for me it's Violet City. The way Go Ichinose used broken chords to give the illusion that more voices are being played, while adhering to the 3-poly limit of the GB soundchip, is nothing short of impressive.
Just right at the beginning of the track, you can hear the Emaj7 - D#m7 - C#m7 - Fdim - Bmaj - F#maj progression and it hits you right in the feels. And that move to the parallel minor key by using the bVII to move from the tonic to the bVI is just absolutely lovely. And let's not forget to mention that infamous IV V iii vi that is used in the B section of the track. It's just pure love to my ears.
