It really depends on the mon itself. I happen to find mons that are part of a line to be more interesting design-wise as it allows for concepts to be better fleshed out and built upon. For example:
>Dreepy line starts off as a missle/tadpoe evolves into a more jet-like amphibian in Drakloak and finally into Dragapult who is a fully functional amphibian with a stealth bomber and subtle aircraft carrier motiffs.
Compare this Fakemon lines that are majority just bigger forms of the pre-evolutions, or adds in a random element or anthropromophic activity that isn't related to anything in the previous stages either design or lore wise. This is what makes a unique Pokemon design and concept. Not just a unique silhouette, color pallete, or something that hasn't been done before.
