These games suffer from Warcraft syndrome
They deliberately remove player choice for those who want more difficulty and challenge outside of hardcore competitive online shit and make everything that isn't the upper most top tier content braindead while and trivialise an already easy game.
They remove barriers to entry and exclusivity (like making IV's and shiny's easier to get) and remove "unnecessary" mechanics) that give games soul in flavor because it's about making it as casual as possible and removing as many barriers as possible to getting exclusive or hard to obtain shit, which makes getting rewards feel less of an accomplishment.
It's trying to appeal to the super casual player who only cares about being taken on a rail ride to pass the time and the hardcore by the numbers player who only cares about winning competitive which kills the game for the majority of people in the middle.
