Look up the Galo de Barcelos, Caretos, Fernando Pessoa, Fado, Barragem de Odeleite, pretty much all of the age of discovery (Portugal was the first maritime super power and the last of the great powers to fall) including the food that was spread around the world by Portugal (Tempura, vindaloo, Konpeito...) The order of the cross, which is what happened to the templars after they were disbanded... Also, i'd look up the Bestiario tradicional Portugues to find out more about Portuguese folk monsters.
