This is my first post on vp, I had a hankering for replaying pokemon last week. Instead of digging through my room to find all my old pokemon games my SD and DS I figured that I would download an emulator and use rom hacks on my phone. I ended up playing the first 4 generations in my time off. I did yellow first because I started out with the first generation, then crystal, emerald and eventually platinum. As I was playing these games I realized that these games suck, I ended up just bulldozing through all 4 gens in less than 8 hours each using no strategy or any guides just going from my memories as a child. These games are very simple and require no strategy outside of knowing all the types, what's worse is that most of the game I'm spending walking from place to place and not battling. As a kid I never used repels because I loved the battles even random ones and sought out all the trainers to fight. I. My old age (23) all the battles even gym leaders and elite 4 members were just so mindnumbingly boring. As I progressed i ended up using the speed up function on the emulator and once i got fly the games were over in about an hour afterwards. As I strolled through the games I was expecting them to get better or get harder but it just kept getting worse as I went on. I didn't even black or white out for all four games including the elite 4 and champions.
Tldr: I remembered these games being a great challenge and alot of fun, all I got was a walking sim with some easy 1 click battles, nostalgia is a he'll of a drug.
