I escaped being a genwunner by managing my expectations. Of course the games aren't going to have the same impact on me now as they did when I was 8 and pokemania was inescapable. Begrudging Game Freak because I grew up doesn't make any sense. Yeah, they've fucked up a lot and I don't agree with some design decisions, but they've yet to make a mainline game that was unfun for me, which is more than I can say for other franchises.
