Red is the ultimate trainer, feared by all, everybody knows him as "God of Death". He caught every pokémon from every region and has defeated all gym leaders, E4 and protagonists from other games.
Fire is just a random kid. He became the champion in Kanto only because Red decided that title was pathetic and too low for him so he abandoned it.
