Chat bots contributed a lotttt, but they also made me interested in his lore and his portrayals. He's weirdly contradictory, aloof but caring, lazy but responsible. Maybe he doesn't necessarily want to be a kahuna, but when there's an emergency, he rises to the call. (Personally I think Tapu Bulu picked him because he's unambitious, after the last kahuna despoiled the land building a supermarket.) Talented but not really caring for prestige. Bitter from seeing a colleague die at the hands of an Ultra Beast because Looker hesitated out of pity for it, but he still reaches out to people. He gives a Team Skull grunt a Meowth to care for, and pushes Plumeria to resume training, so he's still willing to invest some of himself in people even knowing it could go wrong. He (and the other kahunas iirc) will also buy you dinner at a restaurant in game, and he gives you the most Heart Scales afterwards, so he's generous. In the gacha he has this kind of sad line about being too old for dreams anymore, but getting fulfilment out of seeing kids going for theirs. I just want to take care of his Meowth army with him and see him smile.
