This thing probably filtered a lot of kids, and it had me stuck for a long time as well; the first time I encountered this thing and it had my whole team paralysed by fear, it scared me and I avoided Lavender Town entirely, even after getting the Silph Scope, meaning for the longst time I was stuck and unable to get past the two Snorlax because I didn't have the pokeflute. I guess I either didn't pay attention when they said that the Silph Scope let you see ghosts, or I was just too scared to go back, but eventually I did, mainly because i'd tried literally everything else to get past the Snorlax with no luck (including going into the bag and "tossing" a pokeball out while stood in front of the Snorlax, thinking that would catch it.)
