You never want to trade Pokémon with good IVs, but bad ones for the chance of it rolling good IVs.
Traded Pokémon also have a rare chance to turn "lucky", which only require half as much stardust to power up and have an IV floor of 12/12/12

Pic related is what I caught shortly after the community day started here. I evolved it right away to get Aqua Tail, which is Gyarados' best PvP charge move.
The overlay shown is CalcyIV, and it has output that tells me that this Gyarados is rank 6 in Great League, rank 16 in Ultra League.
