I'd go with Snivy, she's my original starter from one of my favorite games and is still small enough to hang out on my shoulder without being a bother
Throw in the fact she sorta kinda has hands to operate stuff with, as well as the fact she'll evolve into an elegant snake and you've got a winner in my book
Would make for a good cuddle buddy in a pinch, too
