Just buy a regular used 3DS for the same price. You'll be much happier.
Also, XY is pretty damn good, but that's an opinion that isn't going to be challenged too rigorously here on /vp/. I'd even recommend finding a used copy of BW or BW2 if you've got a few dozen bucks to spare, so that you can transfer your old Pokémon through from HeartGold, if you want.
