The Toxicroak line is a good example of not making your inspiration too obvious, yet getting the point across.
They certainly have features borrowing from frogs, but slapping boxing gloves on a toad would be too easy. The Fighting-type aesthetic here is much more subtle, giving it a humanoid shape akin to other Fighters and sports tape-esque appendages. The line also projects its Poison type by having cool colors and generally having a hunched-over, cunning disposition. Croagunk and Toxicroak look suspicious, scheming, and ready to strike. This idea is aided by how its type features unify with each other.
In general, both types were incorporated well into the line's design.
