>>33844386Came here to post this exactly, so I guess I'll have to actually make a proper post.
>>33844380Firstly, Pokemon isn't dead. It may be dying, it may not be. Even by your own post,
>>33844655 sales have been consistent since RS, and there is at least one more generation to come.
Secondly, to rebut your specific example of 21st century designs being the issue, it would suggest that Gen 1 & 2 would have the best/most marketable designs. While gen 1 is inarguably fawned over and the majority of designs praised, the Pokemon introduced in G/S are much less beloved, and I say this as a Johtoddler. In starter polls, all three of the Johto starters are regularly poorly ranked, (albeit not the most hated, which most likely belongs to gen 5). Though there are notable exceptions, the designs of many of the rest of the Pokemon Johto Pokedex are also often criticised, in harsh comparison to the wide praise and few critiques of the Kanto dex. Lumping the two together to prove an point about design is meaningless.
Finally, there is no way that, if the series had actually died, there would be any way to link it undeniably to the designs of Pokemon in any way. With so many features added and removed from game to game, as well as tonal shifts and changes in the market, it would be hard to identify particular reasons why the series would end, let alone a singular one that hasn't had an effect on sales for over fifteen years.
