I haven't been into Pokemon for a long time, not bothering to play US, LGE, or Sh despite getting them for free from work. PLA got me interested in the series again because it felt like a real rough draft for the next mainline pokemon game, but SV failed to deliver on the things I feel like were teased.
>alternate progression system that uses catching and research from PLA axed; it's all battling across all 3 stories
>fast and fluid exploration hamstrung by removing ability to catch pokemon without battling, manual initiation of battles, and filling world with 5-pixel-tall pokemon that pop in two feet ahead
>side quests and a growing world gone and replaced with quarter-baked shit gym tests
>barely anything to find in the world, they don't even bother to let you mark your map because everything you could find is already marked for you a la Ubishit open world style games
>no interiors to any buildings and the same copy/paste shops in towns, so towns feel lifeless
>absolutely barren post game with nothing to do except PvP battles, trading, shiny hunt, and tera raids
>no weekly events; time and weather seem like afterthoughts despite their inclusion
>autobattling is the only way your pokemon can interact with the world
>nitpick, but taking out set battle and ability to skip animations is baffling and why the fuck is there no E4 hall of fame
Not to mention the absolutely rampant technical issues and the game looking like it's 3 tech generations behind. It's undeniable that I had fun with the game and there are flashes of inspiration and QoL within, but it was a really frustrating fun where I could see an actual good game if I squinted. I was imagining a better game in its place while playing to get me through it.
