But as for what you were saing about chapter 2. Right now I am rewriting it, making Ray seem more "human" I guess. Mostly just a few changes towards getting transferred, making him at least have some attachment to his home country. Perhaps give hims some sort of internal dialogue weighing out the pros and cons of moving out of country. You know, life shit.
And yeah I agree with what you say about all the smaller issues building together to make one big one.
