League Conference became a joke as the series progressed. First we had Tobias winning the whole thing wit just two pokemon, then Virgil won the whole Unova League with just Eeveelution , then Alain reached the final of Kalos League with just two pokemon. This is why it got so frustrating watch Ash loses all the league conference after Tobias, Virgil and Alain turned them into a joke.
That probably the main reason the Champion were unchanged, most league conference winner weren't good while Ash is consistently nerfed.
