The people who thought it'd beat out Ash and Misty are the same people who thought Ash and Alain would battle in the M8 finale in some grudge rematch from the XY league or that Greninja would be used in the final battle against Leon. They just don't understand how the show works. Ash and Misty was the endgame through the entire 26 year run of the show.
