I've said it before but, as a show about Ash's WC run and biggest, if not final, accolade, Goh was a poor synergy. Who cares about his one throw catch when Ash was taking on previous or some of the toughest opponents. Who cares about Mew if it wasn't M1 Mew? Why care about Mew at all when we have PokeGODS by this point?

What Ash should have gotten was a re-created student-coach dynamic like what he had with OG Brock/Misty. He needed someone strong, someone to challenge him, someone to motivate and make him stronger. And that perfect companion is Alain-kun Paul.

So basically, in terms of popularity, Riko and Roy have been beating most seasons of Ashnime other than the 'nostalgia-filled' final season where he won it all, and Ash at his most serious. If nothing else, guess people do prefer a serious Ash with a serious rival like Alain-kun. No more wakuwaku allowed.

Frieren tops again, proving a show about random journey like MPM can still work as long as it has a popular MC and good companion with better dynamic. Ash, Arven and Dawn/Marnie could have made PM2023 100 times better as long as they had better dynamic with each other and Ash settle all his unfinished business like Defeating Alain.
