Introducing himself as Alola league champion only became a thing for the Masters 8 episodes, which came right after that final Alola ep with the Alola crowd cheering him on and reaffirming his identity as "their" Champion. That wasn't the universe bending over, that was Ash's found family and community in Alola recognizing his worth, and a defining moment for Ash realizing he wasn't just some kid from Pallet Town anymore, he was representing a whole region, its culture, its people -- his family.
