It was quite obvious they dropped it because he was a massive XYfag and Amourfag and he hated SM right from the start, yes, but those by themselves aren't the real issue either. The real issue was that they kept lying about their subbing SM. They never officially dropped it, but they kept making up excuses like "we lost our encoder" (when they could have easily recruited a new one). Some-Stuffs only started subbing SM BECAUSE PM dropped it, not because of any competition (in fact, Adamant and SS's stuff had worked on non-Pokemon series in the past). Had Adamant and PM just outright said "We are ending our activities as we no longer have the interest to continue subbing the anime, thank you for supporting us for all these years", I think people would have been fine with them stopping. People shat on them not for hating SM but for their lack of transparency.
