The hate would have flooded for the first episode like it did to Liko, pass just as quickly after they give up and move on with their life, and then the good shit would carry on from there.
I even think a Goh-only JN would have been better than Horizons. JN aired during a massive spike in Pokemon Go users, and Goh was basically a Pokemon Go representative for the anime. If JN had been Goh, it would have ridden that massive wave.
