>>53996553As a May fan it makes me sad because Dawn got involved in a lot more plots outside of Contests. Just in the first year or two of DP alone:
- Dawn got to battle in the tag battle tournament. There was nothing similar to this in AG. Dawn got to battle alongside Conway and against Ash/Paul
- Dawn got to battle Lucian, even if it was moreso that Buizel wanted to. Dawn battled an Elite 4 member
- Dawn got to battle Maylene in an official battle, it was the first time a companion challenged a Gym leader. Aside from that she also battled Gardenia and beat her Turtwig in a tag battle outside the Gym with Ash, I believe in the ep James released Cacnea.
- Dawn got stuff like the Pokestylist episode, the cosplay competition, the Lyra arc, etc.
Besides that Dawn's actual pokemon were out of their balls and seen a lot more. Besides the obvious major focus on Piplup, her pokemon like Buneary/Pachirisu tended to be out more than Beautifly/Skitty, and Mamoswine had the disbedient arc.
It makes me sad because I always wish May got more things to do outside of Contests episodes, and she did get some things to be fair like Pokeringer, battled Wattson's assistant, the Winstrate family, etc...but it wasn't enough,
