>>58135132>First thing people do in these threads is bring up UnovaBut yeah it's hard not to agree. I can give Unova a bit of leeway for not being all that ambitious since the DS was pretty scuffed hardware-wise so we weren't going to get some monumental leap in quality if DP weren't already shooting for the stars and going low-poly kino like DQ Monsters Joker or something like Spectrobe's sprites mixed with 3D/fully 3D battle scenes but XY really do feel rushed in retrospect, especially in hindsight thanks to what we've learned about the games behind the scenes thanks to the Tera Leak and what we've seen firsthand. It's clear there was supposed to be a lot more to XY, Zygarde's lore and the Kalos region itself which we hopefully could have gotten if a third version had been released in 2015, but that would have probably conflicted with SM's development which itself was quite messy (most of USUM's "ultra changes" were intended for the base games) on top of them deciding rather early on that Zyarde's VS X/VS Y formes would be repurposed into 10% and Complete respectively for future games and an early appearance in the anime and to prioritise ORAS over an expanded version, it makes XY itself feel "unfinished" compared to a lot of other games in the series.
The expanded versions generally make things feel a lot more fleshed out and allows for ideas that inevitably get cut from these games to be implemented or in the case of BW2 straight up be a part 2 to the original story so without a Z or XZ/YZ or X2/Y2 Kalos feels a bit empty, especially with the knowledge that Southern Kalos was supposed to be a thing, Legendary lore was supposed to be expanded upon, etc.
Kalos is a great region so seeing it get such poor treatment instead of expanding upon it sucks, and despite being the setting for a Legends game, said game only takes place in a single city.
