It would be tacky to retread the same idea right after PLA, but Celebi works better a better plot device than Arceus ever did. Having the player go back in time, but remain in the same physical space, feels weirdly unbalanced in terms of the Dialga/Palkia lore. DP and PLA pay lip service to both legendaries an their tribes being equals, but the narrative says otherwise. It would've made more sense if the player was time displaced and on the other side of the world. Instead, it makes Dialga seem like the favourite son.

We already had a side quest with Celebi in HGSS, and its role in the fourth movie was a really neat glimpse into the past. Feels like they took the Legends Johto idea, and grafted it onto Gen 4, because they already planned out merch and TCG with Sinnoh Pokemon.

I double checked the Ranger mission and the obtaining sequence in Diamond, and to me it really seems like they send the Manaphy egg straight to your trainer in Sinnoh. Does DP's "Connect to Ranger" feature work the same way for all three games, or is that method specific to the first game?

That's why Gen 9's ending with no Unova game, Game Freak didn't make an Unova game, yet a remake of DP appeared in Gen 8, just as a remake of Gen 1 appeared in Gen 3, a remake of Gen 2 appeared in Gen 4 and a remake of Gen 3 appeared in Gen 6. From here, the exact years get a little more complicated. B1W1 are supposedly about 10 years after Diamond & Pearl according to the Teraleak, but Sun & Moon are about 20 years after Red & Green, and math doesn't quite add up unless you seriously stretch your definition of "about".

2011-2014: B2W2 + XY
2013-2016: SuMo + USUM

Sword & Shield were the first games in the series to have ongoing events that could be accessed in the overworld, with these events being announced with real-world dates. This could imply that these games and their events occur around when they were released in real life, just like RBY and GSC originally did.

Probably 2019: Sword & Shield
Probably 2022: Scarlet & Violet

If this claim about Z-A taking place 5 years after XY is actually true (I have yet to see an actual source), that would put it either right around Sword & Shield, or slightly before.

A Pokédex of 151 doesn't really bother me, nor does the Kalos Pokédex having 457 Pokémon. What does bother me is that the Kalos Pokédex bloats the game by barely doing anything interesting. It's not engaging catching

with Platinum adding your starter as a story thing (this doesn't matter too much since it takes from Verity Lakefront) and Kricketot as a morning/night encounter which is a good way of introducing time of day as a mechanic.

If your argument is "I have more variety for my team and that's a good thing", I really don't care. Pokémon is more interesting when you're limited and you have to recognize the design decisions. Giving the player access to five different ways to counter the next Gym Leader is boring, and I don't care about how you're doing three or four runs of the same games every year.

I would argue that the way you obtain Mega Stones should also be interesting since Mega Evolutions are their own designs. Ideally the method in which you obtain them should involve doing something with that Pokémon and/or its line. SM making Mega Stones either Battle Tree exchanges or event distributions is such a letdown after Gen VI at least gave them all something.

That's been Game Freak for way too fucking long, Masuda barely got Gen 3-6 remotely reasonable and every other game has been some degree of fucked despite his best efforts (him restarting Gen 2's development and finishing it in less than a year, or the assets for Gen 6 being somewhat future proofed). That's not to say Masuda is perfect either, DP is a disaster engine wise if you look just below the surface, while XY is similarly a disaster but design wise instead.

Le funny face isn't that clever I think people shat on that since AG's overuse of overly exaggerated faces (the infamous big mouthed TR scene). The worst part of that it reduces the characters to having the same personality just for a gag, and TR not appearing every episode has been common since BW. World building emphasis has been common since DP, and XY dedicated entire specials setting up Mega Evolutions, Team Flare, and Zygarde. Hell even after the main story ended there's a special dedicated to Yveltal generally being a dick to ancient people.
