>>58616652 actually wasn't one of mine. I mean I agree completely with what they're saying about the gyms (I don't have strong enough feelings about the RS arc to comment on that part specifically, but I do agree with the stock characters part re: DP) so I guess it doesn't matter either way exactly which anon said it, but just wanted to make that clear.
My fixation on the gyms isn't necessarily the gyms specifically, it's that Platinum's doing Literally Everything and the other guys are doing Fucking Nothing. The gyms are just one facet of that. Though I will say they probably do receive the most of my attention/annoyance because each gym battle is guaranteed like one chapter each, possibly more than one if it's a long battle or if there's also a chapter focused on training. So that's like 8+ Gym Chapters out of what's apparently 79 chapters of the entire arc since I looked it up just now, or over 10% of the arc at absolute minimum. It's a lot of attention for something that's supposedly not really that important (also it is presented on the stats page as an unambiguous concrete marker of Platinum's, but no one else's, progress).
Platinum also does contests, this whole journey is really meant to be a quest for Platinum to make her super special accessory, occasionally there are chapters with premises liking Teaching Platinum To Ride A Bike or Finding A Hotel That Meets Platinum's Standards and on and on and on. It gets old. The entire arc is very Platinum-focused and shaped by her desires for at least the half, so much so that it almost doesn't matter if Diamond's the one getting all the big plot moments at the end. It doesn't make up for what came before.
