Also, having everything be connected to a mastermind would be the gayest thing they could do. Something I love about Pokemon is how vast the world feels with so many different regions, stories, types of power ups, etc. and connecting everything would make it all feel so small. Just let Volo die, the only reason why the twist has any impact is because he looks like Cynthia and not because there's anything remarkable about him otherwise.
