This is basically the same as saying, :
Ash's Japanese name is Satoshi, in katakana it's サトシ、also by the way Gary's name in Japanese is Shigeru, or シゲル、which starts with the same katakana letter that Ash's name ends with - Shi - シ, so it's as if Ash is inserting himself into Gary which means Ash is on top of Gary so Ash x Gary is canon.

What I'm trying to say is subtext in shows like the ashnime is meaningless, use the actual dialogue to make a point.
