>>53133763>selective breedingHard Enough's story implies anyone can become strong regardless of their origin. Selective breeding was only for getting variant species, which are a weapon of their own when given lack of information on them. Smogon fanfic meta where 90% of pokemon species are useless and 99% of the useful species are useless due to poor IVs isn't a thing.
>Why did they overcomplicate the easy settings of Pokemon with aura nonsenseI don't see how Aura overcomplicates the story either, eugenics is a lot more complicated than cultivating aura through meditation.
>but never use the selective breeding to get perfect Pokemon? For one, elective breeding is too complicated to pull off at the start. How do you justify your MC pulling it off financially at the start of their journey? The closest to this I see are those stories with "potential" tiers, and even in those the MC almost always completely bypasses it by starting out with S tier pokemon and the methods to ascend them to S+ tier, which is much more Gary Stu than Hard Enough's all-accessible aura cultivation.
For two, IVs are a game mechanic that work against the idea that pokemon are our friends and pushes them towards tools and numbers to be tossed aside when they aren't good enough. How are you going to justify your MC abandoning his starter and team once he can financially support a eugenics operation? How are you going to justify them even making it in the business to begin with if perfectly bred pokemon are walking around? If he started out rich, why not just buy perfect pokemon from an established breeding company? etc
