I think even people who were watching during Gen 2 didn't really mind that Ash lost. It sucks did he did but it wasn't the point of it all because the main draw was seeing him finally battle Gary.

Getting mad at Ash not winning in the Johto League would be like watching Slam Dunk and being mad that they don't win the Nationals or something.

I thought these final 11 episodes were going to mostly have some sort of focus since they advertised it with all the stuff about "now that Ash is champion what else does he need to call himself a Master?", but it's just doing the same crap Journeys always did only with Misty and Brock instead of Go. Which is an improvement I guess, but come on. What a shitshow. Wouldn't be surprised if that scene with Gary asking Ash about his goals is literally the final episode.

what's funny is that Brock and Misty were absent for most of Journeys while XY, SM, etc were heavily pandered to throughout Journeys.

Did they really think in the final episodes that the OS, only series with an actual pop culture impact, wasn't going to be referenced? That Brock, Misty, the old mons, Gary weren't going to be pivotal players?

90% of it is going to be tying up loose ends with Misty, Brock, and tertiary characters like Gary while also bringing back the reserves. Some of the most important ones like Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Charizard, etc. will probably get their own episodes along with possibly the released ones like Pidgeot, Primeape, and Greninja. I’m hoping Butterfree also comes back, since I liked the idea one anon had of Ash “proposing” to Misty by giving her the pink Butterfree in a love ball.

I think the problem with Misty and Brock being the only traveling companions is that they are such one note characters that you know exactly how they will react and do in those episodes that sound like nothing but filler. The fact that is GARY the one asking the question and motivating Ash says a lot
