It's easy to dismiss power fantasy SI slop as, well, slop, but the hook of the concept is decidedly solid. With a single glance you end up having many questions of how when and why about the story. How will this author's SI make a splash on the Pokemon World? What will make the difference this time?
People here may laugh at Evil Trainer because the writer a gay pedo, but it's got a strong hook, and unlike the average power fantasy SI slop who just overpowers everyone because they're just that good the focus is on "scummy" strategies, the MC wants to go back home instead of staying like it usually is nowadays. That's two points alone that set it apart from the rest.
New Normal is one of the most shameless power fantasies on the fandom out there but one of the the things it also consistently does it showing how much shit is changing because of the MC's actions so even if you groan at the MC being such a gary stu at the very minimum you get curious as to how the world is changing, how the characters are changing, and how canon is changing. You end up thinking "wow, finally a fic where the MC is not a pussy bitch nigga who's too scared or worried about "affecting" things".
And yet despite me saying this there's plenty of SI power fantasy isekai slop that's completely floundered too. It's not guaranteed success either. Execution matters too. You need both.
