desolation is arguably the best of the rebornlikes in that department, as you can get stuff like magmar/electabuzz, rockruff, misdreavus, etc. pretty early when these tend to be way later in the other games. just because it's not as bad as the others in that department doesn't mean it has its own problems, but still
desolation in general also just picks up story and gameplay wise a lot more around the 3rd badge or so, the beginning few hours can be pretty boring
