Back in Kanto I would have said that it was pretty tied to the lead, it wasn't just some nebulous goal that Ash had as Gary knew was it was, Ritchie knew what it was, the league announcer knew what it was, Mesaze Pokemon Master is an in universe song (in the Todd Snap ep) and then referencing the games, Lance calls you one when you beat him

The only time TPCi cares about them is if one dies, like Ren's VA who died the same week his character's focus episode aired in Canada; for the Netflix version, they added an in memoriam card before the credits. When Gary's VA got cancer, they replaced him without any acknowledgment other than letting his name stay in the VA credits for the rest of JN, even when he wasn't voicing anyone anymore. If Rachael dies, TPCi won't say shit.

The anime has a lot more cities per region, and it implies that there's at least one gym per type in every region. Ash follows the path of the games, and thus only visits gyms introduced in the games, but rivals were free to visit those offscreen gyms and get anime-original badges. You only needed 8 to qualify for the region's League, but that was only the minimum. Gary drove around Kanto in a car while Ash was on foot, so it makes sense he got 10 in the time Ash got 8.

I vaguely remember this being the case in some media, but I might have just imagined it. Still this is what makes the most sense to me, the gym leader gauges your skill and chooses equivalent Pokemon for a fair match. It's just skipped over in game because, well it's a game.
The other possibility is in the anime, it's implied there's more than 8 gyms in Kanto. Gary has 10 badges at one point, and other trainers have different badges to the standard 8. So maybe there's alternate starter gyms spread out around the region, but again for gameplay purposes we only see the 8 in our path.

Eevee has nothing to do with it. It's entirely because of Ash that Eevee isn't allowed to shine. Ever since Gary beat Ash and Morrison won the Unova League, the chuuni executive has been out to take down Eevee at every opportunity.
It's strange how the pokemon anime is the only part of the franchise that doesn't respect Eevee, and the reason is obvious.

Not really, if the ashnime does anything right it's that it shows that all the other active league participants (Alain, Ritchie, Paul (?well they showed him doing the Battle Frontier), Gary, arguably Tobias) have tons of cool adventures happening to them too because that's what being a professional league battler entails.

Alain's adventures are arguably even more intense than Ash's AND he gets the whole 10 year old Pokegirl too.

If Brock was held back than he would have just use Geodude against Ash but instead he thrown a freaking Onix at him and he wasn't even playing around to teach Ash .Even Roy wasn't that unlucky since Brassius held back and taught him to fight.

Gary ignored Pewter city gym and didn't challenge Viridian gym until he got all the badges. He started off with the absolute weakest gym unlike Ash who went after all the strong gym leader Like Isagi from Blue Lock
