Older events would tend to balance literally whos with shill characters to make the events interesting. After Summer Skyla/Cynthia we haven't gotten shit like that, we're getting less shit than usual and are diehard focusing on plants (lol) so they can keep making money off this game. They could have given Gladion an alt this year to follow up on the same shit as the Cynthia/Skyla resorting to shill characters and THAT would have been less embarrassing than how this event was handled.
