>>26504178It kinda does matter because there's so many references throughout the entirety that make them canon.
Movie 1 - Mewtwo Strikes Back
-Mewtwo is shown in his armor during "The Battle of the Badge".
-During "Showdown at the Po-ké Corral", Mewtwo escapes Giovanni's laboratory and destroys Rocket HQ.
Movie 2 - The Power of One
-James and Ash both reference the events of the second movie during The Mystery is History
Movie 5 - Heroes
-Ash recognized a Latios on-sight in The Semi-Final Frontier! despite having only encountered one in Altomare.
Movie 7 - Destiny deoxys
-In "Pokémon Ranger - Deoxys' Crisis!", Solana mentions the events of the 7th movie, and that Deoxys appeared via a meteorite. She even talks about the city "LaRousse city" which has only been seen in the movie.
-During "May, We Harley Drew'd Ya!" it's revealed that Drew comes from LaRousse City, which was previously a location only from the seventh movie, Destiny Deoxys.
Movie 8 - Lucario and the Mystery of Mew
-The episode "The Keystone Pops!" makes mention of an "Aura Guardian" with his Pikachu, and heavily references Ash's involvement with the incident at the Tree of Life.
-The two-episode "Pokémon Ranger and the Kidnapped Riolu!" again heavily reference the events between Ash and Lucario in M08.
-The episode before the third gym match in DP, Ash and Brock instantly recognise the attack "Aura Sphere" and Lucario even though they have only seen one in movie.
Movie 10 - The Rise of Darkrai
-Dawn purchased a Lunar Wing at Alamos Town during the events of the Darkrai movie. She is then shown to still have it during Sleepless in Pre-Battle!
Movie 11 - Giratina and the Sky Warrior
-By extension of M10 being canon, M11 is also made canon because it is a direct sequel.
Movie 12 - Arceus and the Jewel of Life
-This also makes M12 canon because the three of them collectively make up a trilogy that all reference each other and build on an over-arching plot.
Just some examples.
