Even to this day since 2002, Iam still completely shocked that Blaziken came from this thing. After witnessing the might of Harrison's Blaziken, I thought that it was a new legendary or some single stage with Heracross tier stats. Its just a final stage starter, a final stage of some innocent hatching. Never I been mind blown as a kid when came to understanding evolutionary lines until this one.

Come to think of it, usually each league is won by a trainer with a unique pokemon/team of pokemon (with Kanto league being an exception)
Johto had Harrison and his totally new pokemon Blaziken.
Hoenn had Tyson and his "Meowth in Boots".
Sinnoh had your favourite Tobias guy and his Darkrai/Latios.
Unova had Virgil with his unique Eeveelution Team.

So now you want to see Tobias 2.0 for Kalos League? He's right there, it's Ash and his Ash-Geninja.

Harrison was a better battle than Gary honestly. Ash VS Gary was just a huge Charizard VS Blastoise wankfest. Charizard and Blaziken were far less prominent in the battle again Harrison, only appearing during the end. It's also the only well written league loss.

The league and some gym battles are the only parts that are actually fun to watch. Trivializing the quarterfinals when Ash has lost at that round 3 times just seems cheap. Ash VS Harrison, Tyson, Paul and unfortunately Cameron have all been top 8 and the best battles of their respective tournaments. Imagine if they skipped straight to the finals?

The reason I think he could win is because Ash already lost to Alain twice with Greninja. What would losing to Alain a third time accomplish? They can't simply have Greninja lose to Mega Charizard yet again in the league.

Alan also already represents the "older league rival" that Ash usually loses to like Harrison, Tyson, and Tobias...but this time Ash already lost to Alain twice. So I think there's a good chance Ash can beat him.

What's interesting is that in Hoenn and Sinnoh against Tyson and Tobias was the only time Ash lost with who won the whole thing. Ritchie, Harrison and Cameron all lost in the following round.
