Afterwards, Lillie fails to self-actualise and chooses to remain in Alola, with her brother leaving to Kanto instead, and Lusamine receives absolutely no form of consequences for her actions whatsoever, arguably getting rewarded more than anything given she’s able to meet her missing husband Mohn (who’s disappearance into an Ultra Wormhole was the reason she went off the deep end to begin with) again during a brief post-game event.
Put simply, while Ultra Sun/Moon is objectively the better game mechanically speaking (larger dex, significantly more challenging boss fights, ect), it mutilates the plot in doing so, casting the main villain (Lusamine) aside completely to prop up Necrozma as the main threat, which in turn leaves the story’s deutragonist, Lillie, with an unfinished character arc and allows the villain to escape the consequences of their actions scott-free.
