Well, XY trainers have shitty AI, statistically more exp compared to other games, most trainer Pokémon only having two or three moves and those moves are often shit, overpowered gift mons. XY doesn't have even a single challenging encounter.

Compared to let's say Ultra Sun, where the major trainer battles (except the first Hau fight) have EV trained Pokémon, and I don't mean like 20 in two stats, I mean maxed out in two stats. Revised exp formula which makes it difficult to get overleveled (even fighting every trainer, I only got to 73 at the end, final boss was like 68.), heck there's a slight level jump after Poni Island, Ultra Necrozma was Level 60 and I was only Level 55. Every battle after that was 58+. It also has smarter AI, some Pokémon having held items and just, generally strong Pokémon. Most Totem encounters are brutal.

I can't speak for anybody else, but Totem pokemon are better than Gyms (1v2 format should have been a mainstay and it made the fights feel more like boss fights and were more easily disinguishable from normal NPC trainers this way), SOS was the last decent method of hunting for Hidden Abilities (i don't recall you can chain with raids like you can with SOS and dexnav), sound track is good (especially Hau'oli night time theme), Battle Royale dome was a fun battle facility, and some nice buffs to old mons like Masquerain (+20 in both Special Attack and Speed is pretty good on top of already having Quiver Dance and Intimidate). For USUM in particular, i like Mantine Surf for BP farming and Guzzlord's wormhole world is cool. Coomer shit has nothing to do with it.

I don't care for smogon tiers (i prefer anything goes), but gen 7 being the last gen that allows any mon and move that currently existed at the time gives it a niche over the gens that come after it. I don't like that showdown's natdex anything goes isn't one tier anymore and you're forced to do anything goes with only the mons currently obtainable in that gen (it's not truly anything goes at that point) or you're forced to play by gay smogon OU rules if you want to use the dexcut mons. I quit showdown because of that. Ignoring smogon and comp, having any mon in the game you want at all is still a niche over the games that came after it. It shouldn't be a praise because having every mon in the game was the norm when they were still the most recent games, but natdex has been gone ever since LGPE and it will probably never return so it might as well be a praise at this point

The "protagonists" are Red, Ethan, Brendan, Dawn, Hilbert, Rosa, Serena, Gloria, and Rei.

Florian and Juliana are parallel universe counterparts. Florian comes from the Violet universe while Juliana and all of the other Paldea characters are from the Scarlet universe.

But Elio and Selene are pretty much treated like twin siblings and characters like Hau and Lillie know both of them.

Leon is genuinely the best champion of the generation and everything related to him and the brief section about the Dogs and Eternatus was fine, if not good. But the rest is lame and Hop is outright just Hau 2.
Same deal with SV. Team Star is a filler arc where nothing happens, Nemona is only there to be porn bait and Arven is your actual rival narrative wise with most of the narrative being about him. You can cut the Star subplot as a whole and give all that time to Arven and maybe Nemona. Arven as a softer Silver and Nemona remains as Goku with tits.

This isn't including any post-game rematches; if it was Cheren would be bumped up and Hau probably would as well.
Blue and Silver need actual movesets and Silver needs to evolve his team by Victory Road.
Cheren, Bianca, Hugh and Gladion all need full teams in the main game, not halfbaked shit until you get to postgame.
May needs a full team and to fully evolve it, Wally needs a better team and to show up more than once at the ass end of the game out of nowhere, Serena, Shauna and Hau need full teams with full movesets and Trevor and Tierno need to be deleted.
