Just replayed both of them for a Gen 3 living dex, and while I did enjoy them, good lord they are massive pains in the ass. Especially Colosseum. Purifying Pokemon in XD isn't that big of a deal because once you get the Purification chamber up and running at full steam, you don't have to worry about it at all until you have everything caught and just need to finish purifying the mons from the last few story bosses and Mirror B. But Colosseum is fucking TORTURE if you don't want to just set Wes up walking into a wall overnight, and that only works on 6 Pokemon at a time, and it isn't even that efficient, so you're going to be constantly switching your mons in and out of battle to get that little bit of gauge change. If it wasn't for needing it for Ho-Oh/Celebi, I'd never touch Colosseum again, but XD is fine.
Still better than doing two entire extra playthroughs of Emerald, while completing the Hoenn dex, just for the extra Johto starters, but not by much.
