My take on it: Either do 1 League in Mt silver an the gyms are scattered through Not!Japan or Do 3 leagues Hoenn, Mt silver and Sinnoh. One version starts in Hoenn, the other in Sinnoh. You beat the league in the mid 60s then you travel to the other region, do the League you are lvl 70/80. You finish around the level 90. No DLC bullshit. Gimmick is mega with possibly teracrystallization because of Kitakami.

Include the pokemon ranger isles and regions, fill with Wild area like Galar or Paldea, with occasionnal Mossui size town

Also contest are back

Yeah I played them. The original reason i bought them was because i needed the hoenn dex pokemon for my home living natdex and I bought XY and sm because I'll need them for when I get to those portions of the living dex and I played them until I got my starter. I originally wasn't going to buy usum but them I realized it was 2025 and the games would probably be getting more expensive

Basically. There's no Sheen to worry about in ORAS and no way to reset contest conditions in any game with it. I prefer both iterations of Hoenn's Contests to Sinnoh's because I don't like the poffin minigame and having to pick between judges during appeals.

Not in linear ass Masuda games, it takes fucking ages to get from one end of the map to another. In Kanto you can argue Fly isn't a necessity since all of the region is pretty interconnected, Sinnoh too, but not Johto, Hoenn or Unova (though in Unova's case it's not as necessary because the game is SO linear backtracking isn't required). Kalos doesn't need it either because despite being the largest map, its set up is more linear than Unova's somehow so there's zero reason TO backtrack in that game, especially since it keeps filtering you into the only important city, Lumiose, every hour

The original intent for HMs was to make them key items. The removal of HMs was one of the best things the franchise ever did, especially after the shitshow that was lategame hoenn. Needing not one but TWO HM slaves just to get through everything after Lillycove is an unforgivable sin and why the back half of Hoenn is such a terrible slog.

it was awesome.
and yeah I know they had to trim it down a bit to fit it on a gbc cartridge, but i never noticed that as a kid, at least not until I got to where viridian forest wouldve been,
and even then it didn't bother me (and still doesnt) because holy shit, two whole regions to explore and conquer
i remember being super disappointed with RSE only having one region, with like half of it being water, although to be fair hoenn's routes cover a lot of ground and most of em have a lot to explore and i grew to appreciate it a lot more over time
the johto games have a special place in my heart just on account of how huge they feel, especially when i was a kid
when hgss was announced it was the most excited i had ever been for a new game (and has yet to be topped). game didn't disappoint, best game in the series if you ask me.

Hoenn’s like middle of the pack in terms of my favorite regions but after getting 2 Gold Symbols in Emerald’s Battle Frontier I get why people prefer it over ORAS. Training up a team for the Frontier Brain was more fun than anything I did in the remakes
