Absolutely no one came out better out of that. No one. Arguably only Cynthiafags with the "was not defeated at full power" argument with no Mega Garchomp, no Kommo-o and no two gimmicks and Irisfags because she got upgraded into Champion even if all she did was lose afterwards came out winning or better but even those arguments are full of stretches and copes.
Not even Leon since Leonfags (true) (yes, they exist, just not on /vp/) also hated it because how much of a overpowered gary stu battlebot they made him be while completely neglecting his other facets. And that's without mentioning how people who were neutral to him started to dislike him and the people who disliked him disliked him even more because of that same portrayal.
Imagine going back five or ten years back in time and telling everyone that the anime would do a tournament with all the champions participating and it would be one of the worst and most reviled arcs in the history of the anime.
Sometimes I still can't believe how they managed to fuck up a once in a lifetime thing like it so badly. It's like I'm being trapped on a nightmare but sadly it's reality.
