Like how Lacey treats Uruto would work better with current JN Ash, who is basically a slightly more mature SM Ash. Unless the writers revert JN Ash to XY Ash every time Serena appears—but I don’t want Ash to go back to being that empty shell.

I can't say the same about Origins' Red, the PokéSpe protagonists, or Horizons' protagonist. Unfortunately, they are a vocal minority that despises Ash for not being an outlier who consistently mogs everybody.
