it is actually more difficult to make accurate fan-fiction with him because he is so bland, but has no real personality. The literal, figurative, and game generations that were spent on someone who everyone thought of as a loser*, with Johto and Hoenn being boring losses, outright theft with DP & BW, and pissing even the last remaining non-schizos with XY&Z. There's a reason the entire internet swiftly forgot he even won SM. Then you have JN, which anyone with a sane mind would assume will be a continuity cavalcade for the 20+ year series + Goh, but no, it's only some episodes that are like that. Even stuff that could have at least had some follow-ups like "ping-pong champion Ambipom" if they weren't going to bring them back.
*I recall even as farback as DP people were making Red > Ash memes
