Up until now, Ash and Pikachu, and to an extent the TRio too, were the cornerstones of the anime, and had been for 20+ years. As JN progressed and Ash climbed in rank, the focus was bound to shift more in his favor. It didn't have to shift as heavily as it did, with Goh getting the shaft the latter half of JN, but the pacing for the series sucked. The PM finale was a rush job because Ash and Goh's story needed to be wrapped up ASAP. It bugs me how JN had a lot of really solid ideas but dropped the pokeball on every single one. Goh deserved better. Ash deserved better. Hell even fucking Koharu deserved better.
