Roy with a shiny Lucario is also the prelude to an Eevee joining the main cast. Why not a Greninja or a Cinderace, too? There are only like, 11 Pokémon worth depicting at any time anyways. Sure! Fuck it! So epic!
I gotta appreciate the completely soulless, corporate, backwards storytelling here, too. It doesn't matter HOW or WHY Roy gets a shiny mega Lucario. They jump straight to the reveal, thinking its something worth celebrating, presented without context. It's a fuckin husk and it's sad watching people continue to run defense for it.
