>AG (Hoenn, Battle Frontier)Definitely an animation low, but the addition of May and her contest rivals adds a fun new element. Battle writing begins to improve a lot.
>DP (Sinnoh)Best battle writing Pokemon will ever have, and the best rivalry. Way too fucking long and some of the worst fillers imaginable in here, but a really good league all things considered.
>BW (Unova)This one's rough. Ash is very stupid, fails in really dumb ways, and the companions are so-so, with Cilan being annoying sometimes. Rival characters are heaps of fun and plentiful, but they don't save this.
>XY, XYZ (Kalos)The battle animation is so fucking cracked in this series, and if you want a 'cool' Ash this is where you'll find him. Character writing is pretty weak and the end-of-series conflict is very melodramatic but it has lots of fans for a reason.
>SM (Alola)closest Pokemon will ever get to SoL, big focus on character episodes and comedy, but a lot of the comedy is pun-based or pop culture based so it may miss for you. probably the best cast of characters in any series
>JN (Galar, all regions)fanservice slop for the most part. The only original thing about it is Goh, who is divisive. some love him, some hate him. Ash is static and gets everything he wants. Comedic episodes are the best in the entire series.
>HZ (Paldea, all regions)The continuity anime. Huge focus on serialization, great animation at the start, Liko is very beloved and popular, but lately some serious cracks have begun to show in terms of production and writing. Has lots of fans ITT and is definitely at least worth a try.
