>>55313638journeys is mid. a lot of mid filler. Ash's battles are normally good. I would recommend return eps for characters, if you like pearlshipping then watch Dawns returns and specials. shopcles get a good return ep. seeing prof.kakui and his family was nice too. the M8 and finals were good.
As for MPM I did not enjoy it at all. I thought it was a terrible and disrespectful way to send Ash off. The staff said it was only meant to buy time until HZ. Also, the MPM ending is the EXACT SAME as the Journeys one so there's really no much you missing out on.
The biggest issue with JN is that they had a lot of production issues. not only that they changed directors a few times early on. during a ep it feels like they really want to go further in depth on a plot or subject but fumble hard. looking back it does not feel like they had enough time to develop the characters or pokemon.
