to be fair the differences between parts of australia are minimal enough to be able to be all wrapped up in a single region, especially comparing it to stuff like paldea or kalos which had way too much ground covered for their varied cultures. monolithic oz would probably be fine.

I played the game for the first time this year in preparation for ZA. Pokemon XY are good games but don't do anything exceptionally well. They are a 7/10 in every category which makes them more ummemorable than other gens.
Other gens like Sinnoh are not amazing at everything but there is something they do way better than others which is why when I remember Sinnoh, I immediately have some positives and negatives about the gen in mind. While when I think about XY, I just feel like everything is kinda there and alright but nothing really grabs me. However Kalos is a beautiful region and I say that as a France hater.

No they aren't. Megas are gimmicks that were put to the sideline in Gen 7 to make room for it's gimmick, then promptly cut in Gen 8, only for them to be brought back in Legends ZA, simply because that also takes place in Kalos, while killing the Legends subseries in the process.

I'd rather have them be new Pokemon. Re-using old Pokemon takes away from the identity of a region in my opinion. It's one of my main problems with the Johto, Sinnoh and Kalos regions.

We don’t need to pretend we think Kanto is getting most of the Mega like people who are only finding out about them through the official reveals.
Granted the DLC is unknown territory, but for te base game we know Kanto only has 2 more Mega besides Dragonite and Victreebel. Kalos officially revealed ones already surpass what Kanto final numbers will be in the base game.

both well written characters that focus on the series' foundation of catching, raising and utilizing pokemon in battles in their own way
which is why the sinnoh anime arc was the best
i haven't watched kalos anime yet so i don't know if serena is as determined as dawn, but i did watch unova anime and it's a complete downgrade to sinnoh
both cilan and iris are just awkwardly tagging along because some asian kid from the boonies apparently KANTOOOOO travel by himself
