2. they COULD have made regions based on smaller areas. And should have. Unova being JUST new york city and surrounding areas for example. Imagine a zoomed-in look for france, basing kalos exclusively on brittany or something. Alola could have been just Oahu, not all 4 islands. Galar could have been Scotland or Wales or just London and "East of England". Paldea could have just been andalusia, or aragon, or catalunia. We could have had a region for new orleans or the florida keys or whatever inbetween. But no, they just keep increasing the size of each region.
